Lambda DKE Reinstatement Update

Doug Lanpher, CEO of DKE HQ, and I met privately with President Decatur on Saturday, 11/16/19 to go over planning for the reinstatement process for the Chapter. President Decatur later met with us and the 5 Seniors and 6 of the 8 (previously un-initiated) Juniors. Jim Irwin ’69, who has been instrumental in the negotiations to initiate the reinstatement process, was online for that meeting.

The present class of eight Juniors has been approved by President Decatur to file the petitions for probationary reinstatement with the Greek Council and with the Student Council as specified in the Student Handbook. These Juniors had completed the new member education process as Freshmen and were awaiting initiation when the sanctions were imposed. They were not permitted to be initiated in 2018 but still want to be Lambda DKEs. They will be initiated as soon as the processes through the Greek Council and Student Council permit.

President Decatur has asked that the eight Juniors be the visible presence of the reinstatement effort. The five Seniors will assist, as will DKE HQ and the Alumni Association. These eight Juniors have jumped into the document preparation process with our assistance and will move the process along as quickly as possible.

The 8 Juniors will meet privately with President Decatur later this week, or next, to go over the details.

President Decatur has stated that, once reinstatement has been approved by the Greek Council and Student Council, permitted Chapter activities in the Spring will include Chapter organization, planning, recruitment, new member education and initiation of new members. The Chapter will be permitted to undertake one philanthropic or service event in the Spring semester, continue to work on Lodge maintenance, cleaning and upkeep, and hold Chapter meetings after initiation of the eight Juniors.

The Chapter is not permitted to hold any official parties or social events in the 2019 – 2020 academic year. The Chapter will continue to assist only as individual volunteers in the Shawn Kelly Memorial holiday event later this year, but that event will be restored to the Active Chapter next year.

It is important to remember that the Chapter will continue to be on Probationary Status through the rest of this school year. The permitted Spring activities will be limited only to those things necessary for the internal organization of the Chapter, new member recruitment and education, laying the groundwork and a foundation for full, unrestricted reinstatement in the Fall of 2020, with a return to West Wing and the Bulls-Eye.

We will keep you posted as events move forward.
